Balnuaran of Clava
Inverness-shire
Cairn
Sandstone
Three large low-lying cairns built around 2000BC make up this burial site. Each of the passage graves is encircled by a ring of standing stones. Two of the three cairns have chambers now open to the sky with interior walls of neatly stacked monochromatic stones. It is likely the well manicured surroundings will alter the development of lichen growth over the years ahead.
